The Series takes its one and only trip of the season to Fontana and the Auto Club Speedway this weekend. Previously, there were two races a year at this track, but attendance and the racing in general made it lose a race. However, last year's finish was insane with Jimmie Johnson taking the lead from Kyle Busch with 2 laps to go and then Kevin Harvick coming out of nowhere to take the lead on the last turn and win. Let's check out this week's fantasy picks:
Fantasy Preview: Fontana
The Favorites:
Jimmie Johnson: I'll be honest, if you don't have Johnson on your team this week, you're a bit of a fool. In seventeen career races here, Johnson has only finished outside of the top 10 four times and his worst finish here ever is 16th. With 5 wins and an average finish of 5.1, this should be a no brainer.
Matt Kenseth: If it weren't for Johnson being so stellar here, it'd most likely be Kenseth that would get the "king of the track" talk. He has 3 wins here and an average finish of 9.9. Plus, that team has been running very strong this year and I'm sure they'll take advantage of this track this weekend.
Kyle Busch: His numbers don't make your eyes pop out, but Busch is plenty solid at Fontana. 1 win, 9 top 10's, and an average finish of 12.0, is pretty dang solid and he leads a ton of laps here, so he's going to put himself in good position.
The Darkhorses:
Clint Bowyer: This first year team is running very well right now. And Clint has finished in the top 10 in 4 out of the last 5 races at Fontana. He hasn't won yet, but he has an average finish of 10.6. I expect Bowyer to stay hot this week.
Kasey Kahne: Kasey has had a rough start to the 2012 season with his new ride at Hendrick Motorsports. Don't expect that to continue. Kahne has one win at Fontana and finished in the top 10 in the last two races there.
Ryan Newman: Newman is quietly having a good start to the season. And he's finished 5th in the last two races at Fontana. He's riding some good momentum, I expect is to keep going this week, kind of like Bowyer.
Stay Away From:
Jamie McMurray: Yikes! Fontana has been a nightmare for McMurray, who hasn't scored a top 10 there since 2006. Not sure what it is about this track, but it does not suit him whatsoever.
Juan Pablo Montoya: McMurray's teammate, see above. Does have one top 5, but that was in '09.
Bobby Labonte: He also hasn't had a top 10 here since '04. Just stay away from these three drivers, the only way they'll win is most likely if they gamble on fuel milage.
Good luck picking, can't wait for raceday!
