Weekend Recap: Charlotte

Weekend Recap: Charlotte

What's up guys? After a terribly long break in blogging, I promise I'm back to deliver as much daily content as possible. Due to the need to make some summer cash and just pure laziness, I haven't been able to contribute to Runnin' the High Line at all. But the tides turn today as I once again find my motivation, so lets go!

Nationwide Series: History 300 @ Charlotte
Brad Keselowski returned to his winning ways in the Nationwide Series an snatched up his first victory of the season and the 18th of his Nationwide career. Keselowski was somehow able to stretch one tank of gas out for the final 73 laps and still had enough to do a burn out. This to me is mind bottling, like when your thoughts get trapped in a bottle.......or is it boggling? Either way, thats a pretty dang long way to stretch your fuel, but Keselowski has proven he is one of the best at this fan-hated art of driving on both the Nationwide and Cup side.

Series points leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. encountered some of his first real bad luck this season when he broke a driveshaft only 66 laps into the race, miring him to an awful finish. However, the race was dominated by Sprint Cup regulars which helped Stenhouse maintain his points lead over Elliott Sadler, who finished 4th. The Nationwide Series head off to Dover International Speedway next Saturday for its first date of the season with the Monster Mile.

Sprint Cup Series: Coca-Cola 600 @ Charlotte
So much for Hendrick Motorsports elusive 201st victory......

After it seemed like ages for Rick Hendrick to capture his 200th victory as an owner (16 points paying races since Kansas of last year to be exact), that wait came to an end two weeks ago when Jimmie Johnson took the victory at Darlington. Then Johnson won the All-Star race at Charlotte last weekend. Then Kasey Kahne won race number 201 for Hendrick last night at Charlotte in the longest race of the year, the Coca-Cola 600.

Not to mention, he made it look easy.

Greg Biffle dominate most of the night, leading over half of the laps in the race and subsequently leading at the end of 100 miles, 200 miles, 300 miles, and 400 miles. Mile markers 500 and the all important 600 went to Kahne however, who scored his first victory for the great car owner Rick Hendrick. He didn't even have to fend of any challengers at the end, cruising to a 4 second win over Denny Hamlin. The victory also marked his 3rd Coca-Cola 600 win, a notable feat also accomplished by his Hendrick teammates Johnson and Jeff Gordon.

The victory adds on to a remarkable stretch of the season for Kahne, who seemed to have the worst luck possible at the beginning of the season (which he must have given to teammate Gordon, though Gordon scored a 7th place finish last night), but has now finished in the top 10 in 6 straight races placing him 15th in points and eligible for a wild card position.

Biffle maintained his points lead with a 4th place run. The other top 5 finishers besides Kahne, Hamlin, and Biffle were Kyle Busch taking home 3rd and Brad Keselowski running 5th.

The Series also heads to Dover this Sunday, look for drivers like Johnson, Carl Edwards and even A.J. Allmendinger run strong.
