Fantasy Previews will happen every Thursday for that weekend's race. I know people use tons of different fantasy racing sites, but this is more along the line of who is best at these tracks without having to go into the specifics of a given league. So with that explained, lets check out:
FANTASY PREVIEW: DAYTONA
The Favorites:
Now, if you know much about NASCAR you know that this race (and all other restrictor plate races) are essentially crapshoots, meaning virtually anybody can win for those who don't know much about the restrictor plate races. Take for example last season, when an unheralded 20-year-old rookie, Trevor Bayne, won the biggest race you can ever win, the Daytona 500, before he ever even won in the lower tier Nationwide series. With that being said, here are the drivers with the best shot to take home the win in this prestigious race.
Kevin Harvick: One of the best restrictor plate drivers out there right now who already has a Daytona 500 win in '07 plus a win in the July Daytona race in '10 and a Talladega win in '10. He has 4 top 10's in his last 5 Daytona races and RCR always seems to produce great superspeedway cars.
Tony Stewart: Though Stewart has never scored a Daytona 500 victory he's stellar at this track. He has 4 consecutive Nationwide wins there, along with 3 wins in the July race and he nearly won the Bud Shootout last weekend.
Kyle Busch: He also has never reached victory lane in the Daytona 500, but if last weekend was any indication, Busch is going to will his car, no matter how bad, to victory. Also, he has a July Daytona win.
The Darkhorses:
Trevor Bayne: Hard to put him here considering he's the defending champ of this race, but he's still young, so mistakes can happen. He's still going to have a very fast car prepared by the Wood Brothers though.
Marcos Ambrose: The Tasmanian Devil has steadily been improving at every type of track since his career began, except roadcourses of course, he's an ace at those. He looked very strong in the Shootout and it appears he may have the potential to pull off a big win.
A.J. Allmendinger: With his new Penske ride, he's full of confidence and has the speed to win now. Finished 3rd in the Daytona 500 in his 2nd year so the potential is obvious.
Stay away from:
Ryan Newman: Like Bayne, hard to put him in this category considering he won the 500 in '08. Ever since, he's hardly had any luck at restrictor plate tracks with the exception of a 3rd place finish at Talldega in '09, but his car was still destroyed in that finish.
Matt Kenseth: Just like Newman, Kenseth is a Daytona 500 champ, but also just like Newman he has horrid luck at these tracks.
Aric Almirola: He'll been in strong equipment, but he's essentially a rookie again and has never raced in the 500, I think the pressure gets to him.
Can't wait for Sunday!
